Automatic warehouses, process automation and better customer care. These are the three pillars on which what we could define as the logistics 5.0 and which, thanks to the development of Artificial Intelligence, is making the sector decidedly more efficient.
AI has (and will have in the future) a great impact in all sectors, including logistics. Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, it will be possible to move from the old conception of logistics based on the reaction (I solve the problem when it occurs) to a smarter one, within which it is possible to develop strategies capable of foreseeing any misunderstandings, but also market trends, correctly interpreting the enormous amount of data that every company has at its disposal. A real revolution which, on the one hand, will make the sector increasingly efficient and, on the other, will open up a series of extremely interesting professional opportunities.
The first area is certainly the one linked to the tracking of shipments of products which, thanks to AI, can be followed more easily throughout the journey, even by scheduling delivery or communicating directly with the couriers. Another perhaps even more important aspect is connected to this: customer service which, through automation, becomes more intelligent and capable of providing assistance in the shortest possible time.
We are going in a precise direction from which it will be impossible to go back. The data to which every company has access becomes, day by day, more and more numerous and complex and knowing how to interpret them correctly will be one of the most complicated challenges that we will have to face in the near future to be able to interpret market trends and, in some way, also anticipate the requests and needs of current and potential customers. Particularly in the logistics field, warehouses, which are becoming increasingly automated and increasingly efficient, guarantee considerable savings in terms of costs and time. But why work really, very specific skills are needed which companies are currently looking for with great effort.
We can identify two roles that, in the future, will increasingly be at the center of the needs of companies: data scientist and blockchain developer.
The data scientist is responsible for analyzing, translating and interpreting a considerable amount of data to understand trends and develop predictive models. He carries out a very complex job, which requires advanced technical knowledge, in the fields of statistics, mathematics, programming and machine learning. An efficient system, and therefore capable of guaranteeing an adequate level of predictability, will make it possible to reduce inventories and significantly improve the level of customer satisfaction, thus obtaining results both in terms of turnover and costs.
The work of blockchain developer, on the other hand, consists in the development of software and complex digital infrastructures, designed for process optimization. He is, therefore, a highly specialized IT technician. The ability that he will have to have will be that of making information systems consistent with the specificities of logistics, building customized packages with respect to the needs of the industry.
Many other roles will emerge shortly: we are at the beginning of an authentic revolution and the future is, really, to be written.
